Welcome to the Verity Fellowship Blog
We know a lot of women who want to serve Jesus. Women who want to use their gifts in whatever way God asks. Women who know we need the truth from the Bible more than anything. These are our women, women we love.
These women see that all of life centers on Jesus, so, of course, there’s joyful labor for us to do in His kingdom. To do that work, we need to know the Scriptures. Since we see that all of Scripture points to Jesus, our skill at handling the Bible must include pointing to Him and His gospel in all we do. This brings us back full circle to the truth that Jesus is the center. This is the “verity” of the Verity Fellowship: Jesus is the center of life, of the Bible, and of ministry.
The Verity Fellowship is a new resource for women to help us use the Scripture well. It’s for women who want to use the Bible to minister to others-- for women who speak, teach, counsel, write, encourage, and study Scripture. We know that’s life-changing work; God graciously uses this labor to change our lives and the lives of those around us. It’s also wearying work, hard work, and invaluable work. So we want to bring support. The Verity Fellowship is here to bring encouragement and training to these laborers in the Kingdom of God.
The Verity Fellowship is based in Portland, Oregon, and is generously sponsored by Western Seminary. Launching its inaugural conference last month, The Big Story of Scripture filled the halls of Hinson Baptist Church in Southeast Portland, as women came to hear Nancy Guthrie teach and to interact in practical workshops. You can read more about the conference here on Western Seminary’s own blog, Transformed. You can also listen to the workshop audio recordings on our Verity Conference 2015 event page. For more information about our events and our ministry, you can always sign up for our email updates or subscribe to our blog.
This blog is a hopeful endeavor. We dream that it will be another conduit of resources, training, and encouragement between our two annual events each fall and spring. At our first conference, we were overjoyed by the large gathering of women and encouraged by the excitement for training and resources. More questions were submitted than we could answer. Requests for more book recommendations and workshops made us giddy. If you were at our conference, you know we love to talk about books. And who doesn’t love a good, practical workshop? Yet the Verity Forum on May 7th feels far enough away, that we didn’t want to wait that long. *Enter the Verity Blog* Here is the place for us to tackle a few of the submitted questions, give book recommendations, offer encouragement, and talk about what women are using to minister the Scripture well.
For the next six months, we will attempt to post a few times a week to offer these resources. If it is beneficial and possible, we will continue! But for now,
