Verity Forum 2018 Recap
Verity Forum 2018 is behind us, but the unity we shared as sisters in Christ continues to encourage our hearts and enrich the ministries, vocations, and relational contexts we return to. We reunited with friends from the Portland area, and some from much further beyond, all with the hope to learn, be refreshed, and become better messengers of the gospel.
We richly enjoyed Taylor’s expository preaching on Philippians two. Encouraging us to remember our place in Christ, Taylor taught the gospel frees us from the self-focus, pride and self-protective attitude that silently asks those around us, “Don’t you see how much I’m pulling off? I’m getting a lot done!” Instead, choose the servant mindset of Christ. In a culture that equates busy as important, Christ calls us to live out the gospel in humble devotion to the world around us.
A special thank you to Anika and Christina for leading us in simple, yet powerful, and beautiful worship to our Savior. And the cookies, refreshments, and delicious lunch always makes gathering together an even more special treat.
After the opening session, we chose one of four ministry tracks for further equipping.
The Unity and Dignity track focused on the need for racial reconciliation in the Church and the importance of proclaiming dignity and value for all people. God’s heart for justice is revealed from the first pages of Scripture to the last. This includes learning how to love our Muslim neighbors without leaving home. Racial reconciliation is a gospel issue; it matters to the heart of Jesus.
Bible Interpretation 101, or the Big Picture View of Scripture, gave instruction on how the Bible fits together in redemptive history. The bread and butter of Verity events, this track honed in on learning Bible study methods and principals of interpretation.
Bible Interpretation 301 provided more in-depth discussion on prophetic literature, resolving tensions in the Old Testament, and taking a closer look at Mark’s gospel.
The Speaking of Jesus track brought practical examples on how to open and encourage further spiritual conversations. In a time when Christians are poorly portrayed by the media, don’t let someone else speak for you. The best person to share the reasons you have found hope in Christ is you!
Here’s What You’re Saying About it:
“I came to Verity in the fall for the first time and loved it. A friend referred me and I was eager for a time of Christ-centered growth and refreshment.”
“Unity & Dignity – it was so good! These are topics we hear a lot about, but not always with a solid, biblical perspective, even among Christians.”
“Food was excellent, great singing, and so blessed by this whole seminar! Thank you! It was just what I needed!”
“Wow! My heart and mind are overflowing with how Jesus transforms every area of our lives.”
“Thank you for loving Jesus, and teaching women!”
“I appreciate you sharing your love and heart for Scripture & the centrality (and relevance) of the gospel to all of life. Thank you.”
Until next time, friends! We hope to see you again at the Verity Training coming on June 22 – 23, 2018.
